To be Bisimcha doesn’t mean to be happy. — it’s means experiencing. shleimus. To be complete. It’s not possible to always be happy. If you are — it’s fake. You’re not being real with yourself. Shlemius means feeling the full range of emotions. Even tishabav is called a Moed! It leads to real simcha because it’s experiencing real emotion. If you can’t feel all other emotions then you can’t really feel simcha. That’s how HaShem created us. So why is Purim a time where we are so Bisimcha? The story of Purim — the Megillah — is like a soap opera. There’s fear, there’s excitement, there’s hopelessness, there’s festivity, there’s despair and then true happiness. Every human emotion that can exist.

That’s the real message of Purim. We need it all — all feeling — all emotions to be genuine and authentic. That’s why we dress up on Purim and drink and do things that make us look funny and diminish our externals. It doesn’t matter who you are and what you’re wearing. It’s to show that the INTERNAL is what counts. Will the real you please stand up. Who are you really. Are you real with yourself. Do you experience the full gamut of emotion. Hashem wants your. authenticity, which not always supposed to be joy. To truly feel emotion (in a healthy way) thats true simcha. That’s what’s real. And that’s what brings a person to Shleimus!! How cool. Thats what Hashem wants you to serve Him with.
